Damage Types Dealt by Foes
Is there a way to determine what type of damage a given foe deals (cold, fire, earth, chaos, holy, etc etc). Guildwiki has very few listed. I've looked up many foes, and so far, only one has had the damage type listed.
Also, i don't mean what type they deal by spells, i mean what type they deal in melee. Is there a database on this somewhere? |

It is physical damage for all melee (Warrior, Paragon, Dervish, Ranger, Assassin) with the exception of a few obvious ones. See a Warrior using a Fiery Dragon Sword, and it will be Fire Damage. Many Dervishes do Earth Damage to support Ebon Dust Aura. The Charr use Fire Damage to work with their Conjure. The number of enemies that use something other than physical damage is small, and easy to figure out by paying attention to the skills they use.

I think most of the enemies that deal special damage types are listed, and ones who deal "normal" damage don't need it listed.
Also, when it comes to casters and the damage their wand/staff deals, it's totally random. For some reason they seem to end up with all sorts of staves. I've seem Fire Eles with water a staff countless times. |

Many deal different kinds of damage depending on what weapon they are using.
For example, if a monster droped a vampiric sword... he was using a vampiric sword (you can tell because you'll randomly see the life stealing thing in your damage status window). |

If a monster was really using a vamp sword, he'd die before you reached him of degeneration. The weapon dropped does not effect the damage dealt, for example, Ice Imps always deal cold damage but I've had them drop many different types of weapons.

Monsters have a unique setup for the weapons they drop, and the weapons they use, and the effects those weapons have on them. For instance, when farming undead outside Bergen Hot Springs, I get Vamp Dead Bows to drop. The Ranger using it will not have degen, so he will not die if I just wait. I always know there will be a gold item dropped when I see the Vamp icon on my damage indicators, as Vamp only drops on golds. I have yet to be hit by Vamp and not have a gold item drop.
So, the monster either does not suffer the degen from the Vamp, or they have an innate switch working. Although I don't know how or if it can be tested, I don't think this would be different with an Ebon, Fiery, Ice, or Shocking mod. |
